Academic     Current Events     Professional Development    Dress Code Penalties

Welcome to a site devoted to explaining and refining the Quiz Bowl competition for SkillsUSA!
SkillsUSA showcases many technical and leadership contests at the local, state, and National Leadership Skills Competitions.  One of the eleven Leadership Development Contests is Quiz Bowl.   The purpose of Quiz Bowl is "To test the knowledge of selected team members on various aspects of general academic knowledge, professional development . . . and current events."       (Skills USA Championships Technical Standards)
Résumés are required from all contestants on each team.  Each member of the team must bring one copy of a current résumé to the Orientation Session on Tuesday afternoon.   Each missing résumé costs the team one point deducted from the score.  Most contests have began requiring this document for the 2005 conference.  To protect student identities, Quiz Bowl will accept generic résumés, substituting Any Student and Any Address for actual information.

One good source of format for this task is:

Microsoft Office Online      http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates

Also, pencils are required for all contestants on each team.  Number two lead is required for the Tuesday test.   Any writing instrument is acceptable for the Active Round on Wednesday or Thursday.   Failure to bring a pencil to any session can result in a penalty, since it is required equipment.

• Follow the same dress code as team members.

When:
Enter the active round room with their teammates before the audience but sit in the audience section, not at the competitors’ table.
• Can substitute into the active round only after the 25th, 50th or 75th question, at the discretion of the team or coach, by notifying the moderator when the break begins at those points. Eligibility must be verified by the judges before questions begin.

ADVISORS/COACHES:

As Quiz Bowl continues to grow, we have an increasing need for help to run the Preliminary Rounds at National Competitions.  All it takes to work in the Preliminary Round is:

about 4 hours on Wednesday morning.

       adequate hearing.

the ability to count to one.

Please put us on your "to-do" list when you come to NSLC.   E-mail us when you make your reservations, or leave a message at Headquarters when you register.  It's a great way to find out how a contest runs from the inside-out.   No previous experience is required, and we'll gladly provide on-the-job training.   It's a great way to use a few spare hours - and we'll even provide your sack lunch!   Advisors and parents can sign up to work as an official for a room not connected to their state delegation.  Please contact skillsusaquizbowl@yahoo.com
